Laparoscopic Toupet Fundoplication

The beginning of the procedure is similar to the above described method. After mobilizing the fundus, the limbs of the fundoplication remain loosely applied around the back of the abdominal esophagus. The right limb of the fundus is fixed with one prolene stitch to the left crus and with two stitches to the right crus. A loose 270 wrap is created by fixing the fundus to the esophagus on its right and left sides. The 270 fundoplication prevents dysphagia in patients with esophageal motility impairment.
After surgery patients require no nasogastric tube and are allowed to drink liquids on the evening of surgery. From the first postoperative day soft food is allowed, but dry solid food is avoided for the first few days after surgery. Hospitalization time is about 1 to 2 days. Patients are able to go back to their normal lifestyle or work after 2 to 3 weeks.
